Nellikaai Thayir Pachadi ~ Gooseberry Chutney

Eating Gooseberry is Good for Health. I can never eat raw gooseberry. My taste bud never allowed me to eat one whole gooseberry till now. I like the candied gooseberry and a sweet pickle made with gooseberry. This chutney is another way that i eat. The tangy curd and spicy chilly balances the sourness. This chutney is for people like me, who could not eat raw gooseberry.

Ingredients:

Gooseberry - 3
Grated Coconut - 4 tsp's
Green Chilly - 3
Ginger - 2' inch size
Curd - 2 tbsp's
Salt - to taste

For Tempering:

Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaf - 4

Method:

Wash the Gooseberry and steam cook it in pressure cooker for 5 minutes or in microwave high for 3 minutes. remove the seeds of the gooseberry.

To grind the chutney, add the steamed and de-seeded gooseberry, grated coconut, green chilly, ginger and salt to taste. Grind them all into a coarse paste.

Add curd to the grounded mix and transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.

For tadka, heat oil in tadka pan, add mustard and let it splutter, tear and put in the curry leaves. now pour the tadka over the chutney.

This chutney tastes best when served with hot steaming rice.
