Thakkali Sadham / Tomato Rice

I prepared this Tomato Rice for today's afternoon meal. I recently learned this recipe and i have tried it thrice so far. It turned out Tasty and Perfect every time. This Tomato Rice is cooked in Pressure Cooker with the juice of tomato and spices, as a result every rice grain tastes fabulous.

You can prepare this very fast with less work. it tastes equal to Briyani. If you feel, there is no nutrition in it, try adding Mushroom, while sauting the onions, and let us call it as Mushroom Tomato Briyani.

Thakkali Sadham

We had sip's of buttermilk in between to cool the spicyness in the Rice. It was so spicy and delicious, we all loved it.

Lovely recipe..which type of rice did you use? Basmati or normal ponni variety rice?

Lavi December 8, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Thanks Lavs..I used Par-Boiled Rice to prepare. Ponni or Basmati would also taste Great.

Hi,
I've never made rice in a pressure cooker before so I'm a bit apprehensive to try this. Worried it might get too sticky!
If I use basmati rice, 2 whistles on high and 2 on medium right?
Thanks.

Lavi January 13, 2012 at 10:13 AM

Hi ak, rice wont turn sticky, if you use correct level of water and stick to pressure cooking time. if using basmati, for 1 cup of rice, use 1 and half cups of water. and yes 2 whistles in high flame and 2 more whistles in medium flame.
